Install Environment

Ensure that Skydio Dock is placed in an optimal environment for best performance:

Task

Lighting - ensure the flight environment is adequately illuminated with no hard shadows.

 

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) - avoid areas with high EMI interference as it may affect the signal connection.

 
Reflective surfaces - avoid installation in areas with reflective surfaces, as they may confuse the visual navigation and obstacle avoidance system.  

Windows - avoid installation in areas with large windows that are larger than 5 ft (1.5 m) square as they may confuse the visual navigation and obstacle avoidance system. 

 

Thin obstacles - avoid installation in areas with thin obstacles less than .5 in (1.27 cm) in diameter, as they may be difficult to detect and confuse the visual navigation and obstacle avoidance system.

 

Wind - avoid installation in windy areas.

Mounting Skydio Dock

Mounting the Skydio Dock in a permanent location will help ensure repeatable missions from the same position and orientation and reduces wear and tear from vehicle transport to and from sites. When mounting ensure that the Dock is:

On a level and stable surface  

In an open area

  • One meter of space on the left and right sides
  • Three meters of clearance in the front
  • Clear above
 

Enclosed by a marked zone around the Dock so that people and vehicles do not interfere with launch and landing.

Power & Network

Confirm that your network meets the network requirements

 

Add networks to your Skydio Cloud organization

 
Connect the Ethernet cable to Skydio Dock  

Connect the Power cable to Skydio Dock and power ON

  • Skydio Dock for X2 Outdoors: 1000W, 240 VAC, 50-60Hz universal input, 20 Amp 3-wire cord
  • Skydio Dock for S2 Indoors: 500W, 120V/240V AC, 50-60Hz universal input, IEC plug
  • Skydio Dock Lite: 500W, 120V/240V AC, 50-60Hz universal input, IEC plug
 
Connect Skydio Dock to the Internet  

[warning] If the SSID or the password are entered incorrectly you will NOT receive an alert. The network will not connect, and you will need to delete the network and start over. [/warning]

Pre-flight Inspection

Task

Ensure that you have a Dock-compatible battery

 
Inspect the battery and connector pins to ensure they are free of debris and damage  

Verify the battery is fully seated in the vehicle

 

Inspect Skydio Dock for damage:

  • enclosure
  • bay door
  • pedestal/cradle
  • arm
 
Ensure the Dock or Dock Lite is level and stable  

Inspect Skydio Drone for damage:

  • drone chassis 
  • drone propeller blades 
  • drone motor hubs
 

Clean all camera lenses
