  • Flying your R1 in the cold

R1 has been tested in a wide range of temperatures and has a recommended operating temperature range of 0°C - 35°C (32°F - 95°F). Because R1 uses visual navigation to see the world around it and avoid obstacles, it shouldn't be flown in falling snow, rain or fog. While R1 works well for winter activities like skiing and snowboarding, etc., we recommend using caution when flying in temperatures approaching 0°C. The battery in R1 may not perform at peak efficiency when flying R1 in cold environ...

  • Flying your R1 near water

Unlike solid ground, visual navigation is less reliable over water because of its changing geometry and texture. Your R1 should not be flown over bodies of water more than 30ft across. Flying over large bodies of water introduces circumstances that could result in damage or loss of your R1. For instance, if your R1 runs out of battery and has to make an emergency landing, you don’t want to touch down in the middle of a lake! You may find that you are using your R1 to capture experiences which...

  • How long can I fly Skydio R1?

The swappable battery in the R1 allows for an average flight time of about 16 minutes on a fully charged battery. We offer extra batteries in our store if you need more juice. Your available flight times will vary with environmental conditions. For instance, when flying in windy conditions, the rotors may have to work a little harder, which will impact battery life. The Skydio app will show you how much battery life is left during any flight. The app will also warn you in advance when the bat...
