Environmental conditions, cellular network availability, and direct connection range can all affect the quality of your live stream. In order to get the best quality from your live stream, configure your Skydio X10 system according to these conditions.

You have good cellular coverage everywhere (both on the ground and in the air):

Step 1 - Enable cellular connectivity on your drone

  • Global Settings > Radio > toggle ON Vehicle 5G Cellular

Step 2 - Enable cellular connectivity on your controller

  • Global Settings > Information > Device Settings > Network > toggle ON Cellular Data

Step 3 - Fly over 5G Cellular

  • Select the Signal Strength indicator and then select Connect 5G as your connection type

[note] When Vehicle 5G Cellular is toggled ON, the drone automatically live streams its flights. There is no need to manually start a live stream. [/note]

You have good cellular coverage in the air, but poor coverage on the ground:

Step 1 - Enable cellular connectivity on your drone

  • Global Settings > Radio > toggle ON Vehicle 5G Cellular

Step 2 - Fly over Skydio Connect SL

  • Select the Signal Strength indicator and then select Connect SL as your connection type

[note] When Vehicle 5G Cellular is toggled ON, the drone automatically live streams its flights. There is no need to manually start a live stream. [/note]

You have good cellular coverage on the ground, but poor coverage in the air:

Step 1 - Enable cellular connectivity on your controller

  • Global Settings > Information > Device Settings > Network > toggle ON Cellular Data

Step 2 - Disable cellular connectivity on your drone

  • Global Settings > Radio > toggle OFF Vehicle 5G Cellular

[note] When Vehicle 5G Cellular is toggled OFF, your drone will fly over Skydio Connect SL. [/note]

Step 3 - Initiate a live stream from the controller

  • Global Settings > Connection > Live Stream

You do not have 5G Cellular, or you have poor coverage on the ground and poor coverage in the air:

Step 1 - Disable cellular connectivity on your drone

  • Global Settings > Radio > toggle OFF Vehicle 5G Cellular

[note] When Vehicle 5G Cellular is toggled OFF, your drone will fly over Skydio Connect SL. [/note]

Step 2 - Disable cellular connectivity on your controller

  • Global Settings > Information > Device Settings > Network > toggle OFF Cellular Data

Step 3 - Enable controller WiFi and connect to a WiFi network or hotspot

  • Global Settings > Information > Device Settings > Network > toggle ON Wifi
  • Select WiFi settings to connect to a WiFi network or hotspot

Step 4 - Initiate a live stream from the controller

  • Global Settings > Connection > Live Stream

Additional troubleshooting and best practices

[accordion heading="Poor cellular coverage"]

If you have poor-to-mediocre cellular coverage, but you need to fly over cellular to extend your operating range:

  • Enable 5G Cellular on both the controller and vehicle
  • Enable Vehicle Data Throttle

This helps reduce instances of lost connection or high video latency when flying in locations with poor cellular coverage

  1. Disable Live Stream
  2. Disable controller WiFi

[accordion heading="To maximize controller video quality"]

  1. Disable Live Stream, or
  2. Select Pilot with the Quality Preference toggle
    • Global Settings > Connection > Live Stream

[note] “Pilot” is the preferred setting when Live Streaming via X10 Controller. “Viewer” should only be used when attempting to stream via a weak X10 Controller connection to the internet (because the X10 Controller has a weak WiFi connection, the hotspot being used with the X10 Controller has a weak cellular connection, or the X10 Controller cellular connection is weak) AND the video quality for a remote viewer is more important than the pilot’s view. 1. Update your drone and controller to the latest software update (version 31.9). Visit How to update Skydio X10 for more information on how to update your system.
  2. Toggle-on Vehicle Data Throttle in situations in which lost connections are frequently occurring
