What's in this release
NEW
All Landings are Now Cancellable
You can now cancel all landings associated with emergency states.
- Previously, you could not cancel the landing if the drone initiated an automated landing due to a low battery or an emergency state.
- Now, if the drone begins landing automatically, you have the option to cancel by selecting Stop
[warning]Choose to cancel an automated landing at your own risk—you are responsible for the potential loss of the drone and/or serious bodily harm and property damage. [/warning]
RAS-A v1.2 improvements
Skydio X2D Multiband and 1.8 GHz Compatibility
- X2D 1.8 GHz Enterprise Controller will now be compatible with the X2D Multiband drone.
Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance Margins
To improve your flying experience, Skydio has adjusted Obstacle Avoidance margins and behaviors to allow for more flexibility and safety while flying. Toggle On Variable Margins and your X2D will use visual navigation and AI to dynamically and temporarily reduce obstacle avoidance margins when moving through narrow spaces. Skydio will also dynamically expand margins if the drone detects environmental dangers like the wind.
- Variable Margins is on by default, and the setting persists across flights and power cycles.
- Not available when Obstacle Avoidance is set to Disabled.
Stop at Structure
Perform finer, more controlled inspections with Stop at Structure. When your drone is within 8 ft (2.5 m) of an obstacle, it will not deviate from its course. Instead, it will reduce speed and maintain position, allowing for more precise maneuvering near a structure. A status message will indicate that Stop at Structure is enabled.
- Enabled in the Flight Behavior menu.
- Adjust the speed using the Speed Near Obstacles slider.
- Active during manual flight, including when paused during 3D Scan.
- Minimum speed: 1 mph (0.5 m/s)
- Maximum speed: 10 mph (4.5 m/s)
- If your speed exceeds 10 mph (4.5 m/s), Stop at Structure will not be enabled even if it is toggled on.
- The option to toggle this feature on or off is now mappable to certain buttons on the Skydio Enterprise Controller.
Crosshair Coordinates - Beta
Crosshair Coordinates uses the terrain data as a reference to display real-time coordinates of the ground-level position at the center of your crosshairs. To use this feature, you must have DTED map data loaded for your flying location. Location accuracy will vary for the point of interest based on vehicle altitude, position offset, and gimbal angles.
- Select Manual Skill
- Using terrain data, your drone will display the real-time coordinates of the ground-level position at the center of your crosshairs.

Map Capture with Skydio Autonomy Enterprise
Map Capture (formerly 2D GPS Capture) is now available with your Autonomy Enterprise software.
For more information about how to use this feature, visit: How to use Map Capture and How to complete a Map Capture using GPS Night Flight.
MAVLink Geofence
Skydio QGC geofence allows you to create a virtual region within which the vehicle can fly and define the area where it is not permitted to fly. You can also configure the action taken if you fly outside permitted areas.
Point of Interest Reporting & Tracking in MAVLink
- X2D will report all people and vehicles that it detects as a Point of Interest
- X2D can be commanded to autonomously track Points of Interest
ENHANCED
MAVLink Waypoint Mission Improvements
- Loiter time at each waypoint will now more closely match the commanded times
- Altitudes are now consistently respected across all mission items
Enhanced Microhard Pairing
Skydio has added multiple ways to pair X2D with external ground control stations:
-
- Manual - The vehicle’s radio can be configured from a webpage
- Wired - The vehicle can be programmatically configured via HTTP over a wired USB connection
- Wireless - The vehicle can be programmatically configured in-band via the RAS-A v1.2 wireless pairing protocol
Skydio X2D 5 GHz Hidden SSID
The Skydio X2D 5 GHz SSID will now be hidden while in flight. Your drone's name will not be publicly visible to people trying to find a WiFi network. Access to the network was and will remain password protected, but this improvement will reduce the ease of detection in an area of operation.
Removal of Band M1 - 1.6 GHz / channels 1700-1725 MHz
Through rigorous testing of the Skydio X2D Multiband, Skydio found that leveraging frequencies in the M1 band desensitizes the GPS module, resulting in poor GPS quality and a degraded flight. As a result, the M1 band has been removed from the Skydio X2D Multiband list of selectable bands.
Panorama and encrypted media
Previously, when media was encrypted, panorama images were not generated using the Skydio Panorama skill. The issue has been resolved, and the workflow has been refined to enable users to leverage media encryption to produce panoramas. After landing, insert the Encryption key to complete the process of stitching together the panorama images.
Scout - Find Subject
A new setting toggle in the Scout Skill allows users to display the Find tracked subject button. Toggle on, and the Find tracked subject button will display on the fly screen. The drone will yaw, and the gimbal will pitch to locate the tracked GPS subject.
GPS Weak Altitude Limit
A new safety measure that prevents flight above 33 ft (10 m) outdoors and 66 feet (20 m) indoors when GPS is weak. The menu replaces the Indoor Height Ceiling toggle in the Flight Limits menu.
[warning text="Toggling OFF disables the altitude limit, and your drone will fly using only the vision navigation. To reduce the risk of an emergency landing, maintain a flight path near surfaces and objects."]
Speed Improvements
The maximum forward speed of the Skydio X2E has been increased to 31 mph (14 m/s). Enable the new Rapid Descent toggle to increase the speed to the maximum ascent and descent rates when pressing and holding the Boost button.
-
- Ascent speed: 22 mph (10 m/s)
- Descent speed: 9 mph (4 m/s)
GPS Night Flight
A new menu allows you to select Hand Wave or Multi Step calibrations when entering GPS Night Flight Mode. The RGB navigation lights can now be toggled on or off while flying in GPS Night Flight.
