Skydio 2/2+ uses lightweight, rechargeable lithium polymer batteries (LiPo) that provide higher specific energy than other lithium batteries. Following the guidelines listed below will ensure long battery life and safe operation.
Best Practices and Safety Guidelines
- Charge using the USB-C cable and power adaptor or Dual Charger
- We recommend using the provided power adapter; however, most USB-C power adapters that are rated from 40 W up to 100 W should be compatible as well (charge time may be affected when using non-Skydio chargers).
Inserting and charging the Skydio 2/2+ battery
- The lights on the Skydio 2/2+ battery will indicate the current state of charge. You may also tap the button on the front of the battery to display the current state of charge. The lights will pulse while the battery is charging. While charging, the drone should be in an open area as it is normal for the chassis to become warm to the touch. When fully charged the lights on the battery will remain solid for one minute then turn off.
A battery in a hibernating state will not charge above 50% or charge on using the Dual Charger. To wake a battery from a hibernating state:
- Fly your Skydio 2/2+ in an open, safe environment until a forced low-battery landing occurs
- Charge the battery while connected to Skydio 2/2+ for 5-10 minutes and then transfer to the Dual Charger
- Charging should be completed in an open area
- It is normal for the device to become warm to the touch
- Do not use your Skydio 2/2+ batteries when they are below 32°F (0°C), as they will not function properly below that temperature
- If your batteries do get cold, warm batteries in a room-temperature environment before flying - DO NOT use higher heat (hairdryer, etc.) to accelerate heating
- Do not charge your batteries when the ambient temperature is above 95°F (35°C) or below 14°F (-10°C)
- Fully charge and discharge batteries every two months
- Store batteries at room temperature 71°F - 82°F (22°C - 28°C)
- Store batteries in a cool, dry area with less than 75% relative humidity
- Batteries in an idle state (14 days of idle time with no flights) will start to self-discharge in an effort to retain capacity. This may take several days to complete and it is normal for the battery to be slightly warm during this discharge process.
- Do not disassemble the batteries, power adaptor, or dual charging docks
- Avoid dropping or striking the batteries
- Do not attempt to use batteries that are damaged, dented, or ruptured after a crash or drop
- Do not immerse the batteries, charger, or charging docks in water or other liquids
- Lithium polymer batteries can leak, overheat, melt, release harmful gas, burst or ignite when exposed to heat, water, and other liquids or when pierced, punctured, or ruptured
- If any substances leak from the battery pack and get into your eyes, do not rub them. Seek medical attention immediately!
- Contact your local waste facility to verify if lithium polymer batteries are permitted for disposal in your regular waste
- Do not insert any foreign material into the battery terminals
- Do not disassemble the battery enclosure
- TSA and FAA guidelines state that spare (uninstalled) lithium batteries must be transported in carry-on baggage only.
- When traveling with Skydio 2/2+ in the United States, always pack the batteries in your carry-on luggage

Take care when disposing of the battery pack. Contact your local waste facility to verify if lithium polymer batteries are permitted in your regular waste. Many stores also offer free recycling.
