Configure your vehicle’s return behavior for both manual flight (Remote Flight Deck and live mission planning) and mission execution.

[note] The return behaviors in this article reflect the latest behavior with Rel-8 [/note]

Remote Flight Deck/Live Mission Planner

Select the hamburger menu icon to set your return behaviors when flying manually. Your vehicle will observe these behaviors when in Remote Flight Deck mode and when in the process of planning a mission with Live Mission Planner.

Your drone will return to the Dock following the path it flew in reverse, taking shortcuts whenever possible (if you doubled over the path)

Up and Over

Your drone will ascend to a specified height, then fly from the last waypoint directly back to Dock

Height Behavior

  • Absolute - return height above launch height/Dock
Example: if Altitude is set to 33 ft and the drone is at 20 ft when the return is commanded, Skydio will ascend 13 ft before returning
  • Relative - return altitude above the final waypoint
Example: if Altitude is set to 33 ft and the drone is at 20 ft when the return is commanded, Skydio will ascend 33 ft and then return at a height of 55 ft

Altitude - the height the drone ascends to before returning

Executing a Mission

When planning or editing a mission, you can configure the return behaviors your drone will observe when executing that mission.

  • If Mission Interrupted – the user commands a return mid-mission, or the mission is interrupted due to an issue (i.e. low battery, lost connection)
  • Upon Mission Completion – the vehicle successfully completes the mission without interruption

Fly Directly to Dock

Your drone will move “over and down” or “up and over” to return directly to Dock.

[note] This behavior is only an option when the drone successfully completes a mission. [/note]
