Updates from Skydio contain essential enhancements and fixes designed to improve performance and optimize flight controls and features for operating your Skydio X10D drone, controller, and dual charger. You may use the drones media SD card to update one X10D at a time or load the update on to a USB-C memory drive for multiple updates.

You will need:

  1. Computer with an Internet connection
  2. USB-C memory drive authorized by command or IT Security and formatted to exFAT file system
  3. The media SD card from your X10D drone (optional)
  4. .zip containing the offline_ota folder with the X10D vehicle update
  5. .tar file Controller update

Update your Skydio X10D Controller

Step 1 - Insert the USB-C drive into your computer

Step 2 - Copy the .tar file to the root level of your USB-C drive and safely eject it from your computer

Step 3 - Power on the controller

Step 4 - Insert the USB-C drive into the port on the back of the controller

  • Select the Global Settings and Information menu
  • Select Controller Update and Select Update

Step 5 - Navigate to the memory drive root folder

Step 6 - Select My Files

    • Select USB Storage 1 and the Controller Flashpack.Tar file and Done
    • Allow the update to fully complete
    • The update will begin, and your controller may restart multiple times
    • Remove the memory drive

Step 7 - Select Done

Step 1 - Insert the USB-C memory drive into your computer

Step 2 - Extract the .zip offline_ota folder

Step 3 - Copy the folder to the root level of the USB-C memory drive, ensuring it is not contained within any other folders.

  • Ensure the USB-C memory drive contains only the offline_ota folder. If multiple update folders are present, the drone may not install the update correctly.

Step 4 - Insert the USB-C memory drive into the rear USB-C port on the drone

    • The update will begin automatically
    • The update status is reflected in the light feedback (see below)
    • The process may take several minutes

Step 5 - Verify you have correctly installed the update:

  • In Flight Deck select > Global Settings > Information > Drone name
  • Verify that the software version listed matches the software version provided by Skydio.

Step 2 - Insert the Media SD card into your computer (using an adapter if necessary)

Step 3 - Extract the .zip offline_ota folder

To format on a Windows computer:

Step 1 - Insert the drive into your computer

Step 2 - Open your file explorer and navigate to your memory drive

Step 3 - Right-click and select Format

Step 4 - From the drop-down menu, select exFAT

Step 5 - Select Start

Step 6 - Select OK when prompted with the final confirmation message

To format on a Mac computer:

Step 1 - Insert the memory drive into your computer

Step 2 - Open your disk utility >Select View >Show all devices

Step 3 - Select the drive you wish to format

Step 4 - Select Erase

Step 5 - Input the name of the device

Step 6 - Select exFAT under format

Step 7 - Select the default or Master Boot Record for the scheme

Step 8 - Select Erase

Step 9 - Select Done when the formatting is complete

[note] When you format a memory drive, everything will be permanently deleted. Ensure that you have backed up any critical data on a separate device before formatting.[/note]
