Skydio NightSense attachments provide bright visible or infrared 360° illumination, unlocking Skydio visual navigation and obstacle avoidance when flying at night and in low-light conditions.

[note] Skydio is allowing pilots to use and provide feedback on this Beta feature. [/note]

  • Skydio NightSense attachments are available in Visual light and Infrared (IR) light variants
  • Install your attachments on the top and bottom attachment bays of your drone
  • Turn NightSense on or off through the Quick Actions in Skydio Flight Deck

ATAK Multicast

Multicast will send data to multiple targeted receivers at the same time. Cursor on Target (CoT) PLI telemetry from the X10D and the controller are shared to ATAK’s default multicast group, 239.2.3.1, and port 6969 when ATAK telemetry sharing is enabled, but no TAK Servers are enabled. This allows multicast-enabled networks connected to the Skydio X10D controller to propagate drone telemetry across the network to multiple clients simultaneously.

[note]A known limitation of this feature requires the controller to be rebooted if a TAK Server is connected before multicast traffic is shared again.[/note]

Low Light Flight Environment

  • Use Standard (default) for normal daytime and Low Light at night and in dim environments.
  • The Low Light selection replaces the GPS Only toggle. Low Light flight mode will use vision. navigation if there is ambient light; however, GPS will remain the primary navigation system. If NightSense is on, X10 will use vision navigation.
  • With the introduction of Standard and Low Light modes, we’ve updated our guidance for flying at night and in precipitation:
    Flying at night Select Low Light. Calibrate if prompted (not required with NightSense).
    Flying in precipitation (during the day) Select Standard. Disable obstacle avoidance via the quick action or the settings menu, and only fly with a strong GPS signal.
    Flying in precipitation (at night) Select Low Light. Disable obstacle avoidance, disable NightSense (if you have NightSense attachments installed), and only fly with a strong GPS signal.

Action Wheel

The new Action Wheel is available for your controller's D-pad. It allows you to quickly preview and select functions in flight.

  • Navigate to Global Settings > Flight Controls > Controls to assign the up, left, and right actions on the D-pad
  • Hold the back button on the controller to bring up the Action Wheel menu. While holding the back button, press the D-pad up, left, or right to execute that function

[note] When using the Action Wheel, the down option on the D-pad now locks the controller screen, which is useful for precipitation or preventing accidental screen inputs. This is a change from previous behavior, where you would hold down the Back button and D-pad for 5 seconds to lock and unlock the screen. [/note]

Ground Avoidance

Skydio X10 now uses the Time of Flight sensor to detect the ground/landing surface and slow the drone's descent before it makes contact with the ground, even when obstacle avoidance is disabled.

[note] This feature is not designed to avoid active terrain when flying laterally. Be sure to enable standard, close, or minimal obstacle avoidance to set a reliable obstacle avoidance margin around your drone. [/note]

ENHANCEMENTS

Free Look During Waypoint Missions

You may now adjust yaw and pitch to point the camera at a point of interest while X10 traverses to a waypoint.

  • Use your controller joystick and wheel to adjust yaw and pitch while X10 is flying to a waypoint
  • Select Exit Free Look to snap back to the heading and gimbal angle selected during your mission setup

Updated Skydio X10D Overheating Alerts and Behavior

  • Improved the drone overheating alert model for better accuracy and cadence with updated user guidance
  • Disables obstacle avoidance at high temperatures to reduce power draw and lower drone temperature. If the drone temperature drops back down during flight, obstacle avoidance will be re-enabled

[note] Temperature alerts are based on internal drone components significantly higher than ambient temps. [/note]

  • Can be dismissed
    • recommended to disable obstacle avoidance.

  • Obstacle avoidance may be re-enabled if the drone temperature drops during flight.

FIXES & ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

Default Stick Sensitivity Changes

  • Default settings for Roll, Pitch, and Throttle have increased
  • Roll and Pitch are now set to 35%
  • Throttle is now set to 100%

[note] These settings will NOT automatically update if you are an existing user. Select the Reset button under Flight Control Sensitivity settings or factory reset your drone to reset to these new defaults. [/note]

Return Type Has Been Removed

  • Previously, you would select Vision or GPS as your return type

  • Now, X10 will automatically return using whichever navigation system is better at the time of return

[note] If flying in Low Light Environments, we recommend monitoring and maintaining strong GPS health during your flight. [/note]

Updated Obstacle Avoidance Margins and Speed

  • Standard Obstacle Avoidance is now flatter on the Z axis or shaped more like a pancake and less like a bubble. The margins remain the same, but this is a more accurate margin shaped around the form factor of your drone.

  • Close obstacle avoidance radius has been reduced from 8 inches (21 cm) to 6 inches (15 cm)

  • Disabling obstacle avoidance will allow you to fly up to 45 mph (20 m/s)

  • Alerts if there is degraded motor performance, related to our recent Notice to Operators. Propeller Wear Detected: Check all propeller hubs to verify they are secure and free of wear prior to the vehicle’s next flight. Unresolved prop wear can result in a vehicle crash.
  • VIO and GPS improvements in urban canyons up to 196 ft (60 m) in altitude
  • The X10D Controller now automatically turns off when left in an idle state for 30 minutes (e.g. after charging)
  • You can now quickly disable obstacle avoidance from the quick action menu on the Flight Screen
  • Obstacle Avoidance text added to the bottom of the yellow border for better safety awareness
  • Support Log Export to Drive option now includes a finalizing step to ensure the files are fully written to the USB device
  • Resolved an issue in Skydio 3D Scan where occasional rotational motion blur occurred when Stop at Photo was enabled
  • Wireless fixes improve bitrate, automatic channel selection, and connection stability
  • Resolved an issue that occasionally prevented the ability to view media
  • Tuning for X10D battery charging and gauging
  • A safety fix that prevents launch if the battery is not properly armed
  • Vehicle time/clock setting bug fixes

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Thermal image thumbnails may appear blurry (though the images themselves are clear)
  • If the sensor package flips during a 3D Scan, you may see an image capturing the flip
  • Live updates of the download progress have been removed to improve download speed
  • RGB Lights might get stuck when Strobes are toggled
