You can offload the video footage from your R1 in one of two ways:

  1. Clip creation - Instantly create and share a clip within the Skydio app after completing your flight.
  2. Offload via USB - Attach your R1 to a computer via the provided USB-C cable.

Let’s look at each method:

1. Clip creation using the Skydio app

The Skydio app gives you the ability to wirelessly edit and create ready-to-share clips of your flights right on your phone. See our article How to create & share video clips for more details.

2. Attach R1 to a computer

Attaching R1 to a computer via the included USB-C cables gives you access to your full flight recordings, which you can then edit in your favorite video editing app. This is the best method to use when you want to access, edit, or backup your full-quality video footage.

To manually download your R1 footage onto a computer:

  1. Press and hold the power button (located on the back of the battery) to turn on your R1.
  2. Plug in one end of the USB-C cable to your R1 and the other end to your computer (USB-A or USB-C, depending on the cable your computer requires).
  3. Your R1 will mount (just like a hard drive) to your desktop or Finder. You can also look for it under Devices.
  4. Your flight videos (and related audio) are inside DCIM > 10SKYDIO. Highlight all of the video and audio files folders you want to copy to your computer and drag them to the desired location.
Note: The file format is FXXX_VYY.MOV (or FXXX_MYY.M4A for the audio files recorded from your phone, which are separate from the video files). XXX is the flight number (the count continues to go up over time). YY is the video number within that flight.
  5. After the copy completes, you should eject R1 from your computer like you would with any standard drive.

Managing your media

Your R1 has 64GB of available internal storage for recording video. That provides about 1.5 hours of 4K recording, and the Skydio app will alert you if you’re getting low on space.

To check your available recording space left:

  • At any time, just connect to your R1 via WiFi on your mobile device and navigate to Settings within the Skydio app. Select your R1 under Vehicles. Your available recording time (based on your currently selected recording mode) is listed here in the upper right of the screen.
  • Additionally, the app flight screen provides you with details on how much recording time is left on R1 based on your selected resolution and frame rate.

To permanently delete flights from R1’s internal storage:

  • When your R1 is connected to a computer via USB-C, you may move video files from the attached internal storage to the trash, just like you would with an attached SD card or camera.
  • While connected to your R1 via WiFi on your mobile device, navigate to the Videos tab within the Skydio app. Tap Edit, then select the flights you wish to delete. Tap the trashcan icon to delete the selected flights.
  • (iOS only) Swiping from right-to-left on any flight will give you the option to delete it individually.

Please note that any of these options will permanently delete your flight videos from your R1!
