Skydio X10: v31.9.96 - 16 April 2024
Published: Updated:
Skydio X10 software version | 31.9.96 |
Skydio X10 Controller version | 31.9.66 |
[info] This update will be released gradually over the course of one week.[/info]
NEW
Indoor Capture with Skydio 3D Scan
Indoor Capture is a 3D Scan mode that is specifically tailored for autonomously scanning large, complex, indoor environments, and it’s now available for Skydio X10.
[note] 3D Scan (which now includes Indoor Capture) is available as a separate software purchase. Please reach out to your Skydio account manager if you are interested in purchasing 3D Scan. [/note]
ENHANCEMENTS
Improved Video Performance Using the Vehicle 5G Cellular Connection
- A less conservative video bitrate selection algorithm increases video quality when using the Vehicle 5G Cellular connection.
[info] Applies to flights over 5G cellular (via X10 Controller or Remote Flight Deck) as well as Live Streaming (active anytime Vehicle 5G Cellular is toggled-on). [/info] - The video stream that originates at the X10 vehicle has been split (one sent over Vehicle 5G Cellular and the other sent to the X10 Controller) such that each stream is now optimized for its respective connection quality, ensuring the best quality video for both the pilot (using X10 Controller or Remote Flight Deck and remote viewers of the live stream).
- New Vehicle Data Throttle toggle (Global Settings > Radio) helps reduce instances of lost connection or high video latency when flying in locations with poor cellular coverage.
[info] Enable this toggle if you’re experiencing frequent lost connections or high video latency when Vehicle 5G Cellular is enabled. [/info]
Live Stream Quality Preference Selector Defaults to Pilot
Quality Preference Selector now defaults to “Pilot” when Live Streaming via X10 Controller data connection, meaning:
- Vehicle 5G Cellular: toggled OFF
- Controller is connected to the internet either via WiFi or Cellular (preferred)
- Live Stream: active
Improved Visibility into Vision and GPS Health
New positioning system health indicator tells the operator which positioning system Skydio X10 is actively using and its overall health
- VIO - Visual Inertial Odometry. This is the visual navigation system of the drone.
- GPS - Global Positioning System
If both GPS and the drone’s vision navigation system (VIO) become unreliable, Skydio X10 will enter Attitude Mode
Attitude Mode Improvements
- If VIO and GPS become unreliable, Skydio X10 enters Attitude Mode, a mode of flying that relies on the drone barometer to maintain altitude.
- Attitude Mode controls are now much smoother
- This mode has previously been referred to as a “Pilot-assisted E-Landing,” because the drone automatically lands if there are no joystick inputs for 5 seconds. A new toggle under Flight Controls > Landing allows you to disable this.
Improved Indicator for Track in Place
- On-screen tracking indications now adjust to the scale of the target
- Tracking bounding box is yellow with a black border
All Landings are Now Cancellable
- You now have the ability to cancel all landings associated with emergency states
- Previously, if the drone initiated an automated landing due to low battery or similar state, you did not have the ability to cancel the landing
- Now, if the drone begins landing automatically, you have the option to cancel the landing by selecting “Stop” and fly at your own risk
[warning] You may only choose to cancel an automated landing at your own sole risk—you are responsible for the potential loss of the drone and/or serious bodily harm and property damage. [/warning]
Drone Status Lights During Software Updates
The lights on the drone now indicate the state of a software update when in progress.
Yellow Solid | Update initializing |
Yellow Flashing | Update progress status (25% per arm) |
Green | Update complete |
Flashing Red | Error |
FIXES and ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS
- Enables sensor package upgrade capability.
- Fixes an issue with uncommanded flight behavior as outlined in our recent Notice to Operators
- The X10 Controller video decoder has been refactored to support higher-performance video (lower latency, higher bitrate).
- Increased maximum connection range in uncongested wireless environments from 11 km to 15 km when using Skydio Connect SL (direct 2.4/5 GHz radio connection between Skydio X10 Controller and the drone).
- Skydio Connect SL (direct 2.4/5 GHz radio connection between Skydio X10 Controller and the drone) has been improved to reduce noise in the signal and improve video performance.
KNOWN ISSUES
- Software updates take a long time to complete, ~30-40 minutes depending on your network speed (this will be addressed in an upcoming update).
- There is a known issue with incorrect radiometric readings and persistent thermal camera settings before launching. These features should behave as expected after the drone has launched. Skydio recommends waiting until after launch to change thermal camera settings, use thermal tools, and take radiometric readings.
