To capture the best quality images with Skydio X10, it’s important to understand the available camera modes and resolutions. If you’re unsure of which resolution or Camera Mode to use based on your environment, refer to the flow charts for examples.

Resolution
Resolution is measured in megapixels. You have the ability to select between Full Resolution and ¼ Resolution.
Full resolution
When Full is selected, images are captured at the highest resolution of the camera being used. File sizes will range from 10 to 20 MB.
Use Full resolution:
- If the scene you are in or the asset you are inspecting is in a well-lit environment (standard daytime conditions)
- If you do not need smaller file sizes
[note] When Full Resolution is selected, the only available Camera Mode is Standard. [/note]
¼ resolution
When ¼ resolution is selected, images are captured at one-fourth of the full resolution, resulting in smaller file sizes. This also enables additional Camera Modes.
You will see three different Camera Mode options when ¼ resolution is selected: Standard, Low Light, and HDR.
Standard Designed for typical, everyday lighting conditions. Provides a balanced, standard level of exposure, image processing, and contrast. |
HDR Designed to capture environments with a wide range of brightness levels. Not recommended for use in brightly lit environments. |
Low Light Designed for environments with dim lighting, such as dusk or evening. Settings are adjusted to capture more light, reduce noise, and improve visibility. |
For most everyday uses, if you do not need the highest resolution (Full), consider using ¼ resolution, Standard. In addition to smaller file sizes, you will have a wider depth of field, faster exposure times, and increased dynamic range.
