Support Tip of the Month
With the summer months upon us, many Skydio drones are being flown in extreme heat conditions. Here are some general tips for all Skydio products when flying in the heat:
- Do not leave your drone, batteries, controller, or accessories sitting idle in direct sunlight for longer than is necessary. Do not store batteries in a hot environment, such as your car.
- Store batteries in temperatures between 71°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C).
- Do not charge your batteries when the ambient temperature is above 113°F (45°C). When exposed to excessive heat, lithium polymer batteries can overheat, melt, release harmful gas, burst, or ignite.
- Avoid direct sunlight on the controller screen.
- Store equipment in a cool spot whenever possible. Power off the vehicle and controller between flights and allow time for them to cool down before the next flight.
- When possible, operate the controller in the shade. Prolonged exposure to direct sun may overheat the controller.
- Pay attention to the environment even if the ambient air temperature is below 113°F (45°C). Surfaces and materials such as concrete, asphalt, metal, and glass can radiate and intensify the heat.
- Avoid prolonged hovering in direct sunlight or above a hot surface, which may cause the vehicle to overheat.
- When possible, maintain airspeed; movement creates airflow and cools the vehicle down.
- If you are in an air-conditioned space and move outside to launch, wait for a few minutes to allow your drone to acclimate to the ambient temperature. Exposure to rapid temperature shifts can cause condensation in the lenses and electronic components. Repeated exposure to condensation can lead to erratic flight behavior and even component failure.
- Ensure that you have set your contingency and return behaviors preflight to ensure the safe return of your vehicle if the connection signal is lost.

Skydio Successes of the Month
The New York Power Authority recently completed two days of advanced flight training with their Skydio X2s in their UAS program, providing pilots with an opportunity to collaborate and uncover new use cases for their drones.
In a three-day event at the 300 acre NY UAS Test Site in June, the DIU evaluated the integration of select Blue Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) platforms with the Collaborative Low-Altitude UAS Integration Effort (CLUE) Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) system. This system, developed by AFRL, provides a way to enable the safe, secure, and efficient operations of UAS within the national airspace system. Demonstration partners and products included Skydio’s X2D flying missions while supplying telemetry data back to the CLUE UTM system over a Somewear Node multi-network device.

Skydio Successes of the Month
Skydio drones continue to have meaningful (and often life-saving) impact in real-world first responder use cases.
In one recent example, the Tulsa Fire Community Response Team was called to help out with a suicidal individual who had climbed a radio tower. Other UAV pilots with DJI drones couldn’t launch as they were in controlled airspace. However, a CRT member grabbed his X2 and used that to de-escalate the situation by gaining situational awareness and determining that the suspect had no weapons. They were also able to monitor the suspect as the Fire Department moved closer to help the individual back down to the ground safely.
